Learning Plan Week 5

Hello!

The online classroom is a busy place to be! Thanks so much to everyone helping the kids. It is awesome to see their faces on Thursday at the Google Meets where they share so much of what they have learned and what they have been doing at home.

Here is the plan for next week

Literacy

Raz Kids	Read and record 1 book that I picked
Words of the Week Sentence	Write 10 sentences -        were, week, nice, green, bus -        because, store, have, friend, inquiry special word: *water
Story	Watch Jack Hartmann video on stories https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_nePjWXecQ&t=78s Write a story about the picture attached in the assignment Remember all stories have a beginning, middle, and end Try your best to write the story by yourself – sound out your words J
Math
Subtraction Superskills	Watch the Miss Huynh video reviewing subtracting strategies Practice the strategies listed in the assignment
Math Problems	Try the GoogleForm focusing on word problems and creating numbers
Making 20	Watch Miss Huynh’s video on how to use this new math resource Explore the many different ways to make 20
Inquiry
Living vs. Non-Living	Watch Miss Huynh video about How We Use Plants Complete the answers listed in the assignment
Optional: Drawing	Find a picture online of your favourite plant/flower and draw it (Ask your parents to help you because we need to be safe when we search things online)

Dear Families,

Thanks to everyone for doing so much work this week! I appreciate everyone working so hard to help continue the students’ learning. I have also loved seeing everyone at the Google Meets. It's nice to see your smiles again.

Here is a list of things to do next week:

Please encourage your child to try sounding out the words themselves. They will improve their spelling through practicing sounding out.

Literacy
Epic!	Read the 3 books in the Mailbox under the ‘Assignments’ tab and write about 1 of the books
Raz Kids	Read 2 books and record yourself reading 1 of them
Words of the Week Sentences	Write 5 sentences using these new words: store, baby, well, can’t, game Then pick 5 old Word Wall words and write sentences
Math
Prodigy	Finish the mission Focus: Subtraction
Patterns	Let’s practice making patterns! Extend the patterns in the GoogleSlides Make a repeating pattern out of objects or drawings at home
Inquiry
Living and Non-Living Activity	Watch the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPL0F2V9_gY Read and answer the questions on the handout
Living and Non-Living Sort	On spare paper make a T-Chart like the one in the assignment and make drawings of 5 living things and 5 non-living things. Reminder: Remember to label and color them
My Community: Canada Notes	Paper Practice Practice your printing by writing out the names of the 10 provinces and 3 territories from last week’s video Find a picture of the Canadian flag and try to draw it Try writing 1 sentence about what you wonder about Canada and Calgary Optional Video:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOHlLdS7Ybk

February 21

We have had an eventful few days back to school! On Tuesday we learned about the Heart and Stroke Foundation and received envelopes for Jump Rope for Heart! On Wednesday we celebrated the 100th day of school. Yesterday was a more regular day for us and everyone worked so hard with writing, reading, and math.

In gym we are in the skipping unit.

Our class is also learning many important character skills such as respect, having a growth mindset, and working through challenges and difficulties. We're very brave and smart!
