December 17, 2019

Here are our wacky socks from today! Kids had a lot of fun at the sock hop in the gym too with other grade one classes.

We will have our last day of school for 2019 on Thursday.
Thanks for all that you do for us.

Our weeks have been incredibly busy. I am firstly very proud of the students and their performance in the winter concert. Thank you so much to all of the families that came to watch the show!!

Some curriculum updates:
Math - We are continuing to learn and practice different strategies for addition. For example, we put the larger number that is to be added in our minds and then count on.
[i.e.] 10+6=
We would be the number 10 in our minds and count 6 times onward from that number "11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16"

ELA - We practice home reading and silent reading every day in class to help develop stamina and fluency. We listen to and hear stories daily to build on our vocabulary.

Thanks so much for your continued interest and concern!

We had a fun day today! We have some new students in our class and it makes every day so much more fun! Just a reminder that our concert is on Thursday!
Here are some pictures from Thursday. The kids are making symmetrical snowflakes.

December 3, 2019

Our concert is coming up and many parents have been asking about what we can wear for that evening. It is up to families what they would like to wear. Also if any students have any play crowns that they can bring to school to wear I will keep them in a safe spot in class.

We are very interested in interdisciplinary inquiry. Today we explored math, language, and science when we made our own symmetrical shaped snowflakes. We have been learning about the seasons in science and today we made snowflakes using 2D shapes. We practiced our language skills by listening to instructions, learning about how snowflakes are unique, and we also practiced sharing materials with our classmates.

Thanks!
